My Life Is On The Line

This poem is dedicated to everyone working day to day not knowing if relief will be in sight. Relief is in sight . . . just keep your head up.

MY LIFE IS ON THE LINE

MY LIFE IS ON THE LINE

Bill collectors on my phone

I duck and dodge them

As though no one is home

Gas bill

Telephone bill

And I still have to

Go out, buy and prepare each meal

I feel like I am a criminal in the times

Of the wild wild west

Because I am worth more monetarily to my children

If I am laid to rest

Worth more dead than alive

Life Insurance . . . let’s talk about that

Life insurance should be renamed death insurance

You see . . . death is inevitable and

We must learn to live each day as though it was our last and

We must learn to breathe as though each breath is our last

Flowers are for the living

So if you want someone to know you care

Then give them their flowers

While they are still here



MY LIFE IS ON THE LINE

Each and every day

Because I do not know the

Second

Hour

Time

Or

Day

That the Father will call my name

Take me by the hand and say

My child your time here is done

And lead me away

I wish I knew the exact

Second

Hour

Day

And

Time

So I can prepare my girls

And let them know I am being released

From my flesh

And going to a better place

And I will be fine



MY LIFE IS ON THE LINE

And I am on my grind

To make sure my girls

Get to enjoy life with me and

Get to spend time with me

Instead of seeing me asleep or

Talking to me on the phone

Wondering what time I will come home

Because I am always at work and

I am always hustlin'

Because like many I am one paycheck away from broke



MY LIFE IS ON THE LINE

To make sure tomorrow is a brighter day and

To make sure food stays in the fridge and in the cabinets

Because I am afraid to become a bandit

But I may one day real soon

And it is just a matter of time

Because MY LIFE IS ON THE LINE

Before I put a ski mask on

And start robbing folks from dusk till dawn

To make sure that my babies continue to eat

And so I can pay BG&E

So my babies will not be cold and

Always have a safe haven that pumps heat



MY LIFE IS ON THE LINE

And I don't think you understand because

There are many out there that say

They want me to succeed

But they are the spawns of demon seed

They are vampires disguised as my friends

That want to bite into me

And suck the life out of me

Until I am bone dry

And do not care if my babies cry

To them my babies are a casualty of war

And I am their

Lyrically spitting picture taking whore

Nothing less

Nothing more



So you see

MY LIFE IS ON THE LINE

I gotta write

I have to write

Because these lines are my life



I have to spit

I have to rhyme

Because it is only a matter of time
